Parish of Verwood
Safeguarding Policy Statement
The care and protection of children, young people and adults involved in church activities is the responsibility of everyone who participates in the life of the church. We are committed to respectful pastoral care and safeguarding such people, and to promoting a safer culture.
We will have due regard to, and adopt, the safeguarding policy and guidance issued by the Church of England and the Diocese of Salisbury. A full copy of the current Policy is attached. This means that we are also committed to
- Safely recruit and support all those with any responsibility related to children and vulnerable adults
- Respond promptly to every safeguarding concern or allegation
- Care pastorally for victims/survivors
- Care pastorally for those who are the subject or concerns/allegations of abuse and other affected persons
- Respond to those that may pose a present risk.
The Parochial Church Council’s (PCC’s) responsibilities include ensuring that those in relevant positions receive the necessary training and relevant DBS clearance; maintaining records to confirm compliance; the health and safety of those using the church and its facilities, and Parish Centre hire controls.
It is the responsibility of church members to prevent the physical, emotional, sexual, financial and spiritual abuse of vulnerable people, and to report any such abuse that is discovered or suspected to the Parish Safeguarding Officer or other appropriate person. This Policy, and contacts for those with concerns, will be published in the Meeting Room and Parish Centre. Information about such cases or suspicions must be kept confidential.
We will fully co-operate with the Diocese and appropriate statutory bodies in any investigation into abuse, including when allegations are made against a member of the church community.
Each person who works with children or vulnerable people will agree to abide by this Policy and the guidelines established by this church.
This church appoints Mrs Carol Weaver to advise within the parish on all safeguarding matters relating to children, young people and adults as the Parish Safeguarding Officer. She may be contacted by getting in touch with the Parish Office.
This policy statement, including ensuring up to date DBS checks, will be reviewed annually by the PCC.
